Guardian Angel at Streetwork
![]()
The Brixton riots set off a panic wave up and down the country about gang violence and young people. Edinburgh’s response in 1988 was to form a new ‘detached’ youth project to work with young people. Having secured funding from the local authority and the Scottish Executive, Streetwork was formally launched in February 1992.
Following a successful trial, 12 months ago Streetwork subscribed to BTS’ Guardian Angel lone worker safety surveillance service. This allows lone workers equipped with a mobile to register their activity details and an expected finish time. Guardian Angel escalates details of the visit to colleagues if the lone worker fails to check in before the finish time, and allows users in direct physical danger to call an emergency hotline.
